Community Guidelines

Proud2Bme is a safe, supportive space because YOU make it that way. We’re counting on our members to be leaders, so here are some guidelines to get you started:

Be true to yourself and be respectful of others. You might not always agree with what other members have to say--and that’s okay. We’re all for discussion and debate, as long as you treat others the way you would want to be treated. That means no harassment, bullying or name-calling.

You know those websites that post pictures of celebrities and then everyone makes rude comments about how they look? Well, you’ve probably guessed that this is not one of those sites. Proud2Bme is a body snark-free zone. Mean-spirited talk about appearance is not allowed.

Proud2Bme is an online community where teens can talk about health, self-esteem and body image. But when it comes to serious problems, our forums, chats and comment areas are not a replacement for professional help. We want to be sure our members get the specialized support they need, so please contact our toll-free helpline at 1-800-931-2237 or visit our Helpline page for advice, resources, and referrals.

If you are in a crisis and need help immediately, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Proud2Bme is not a health care provider, and does not give medical advice or treatment. Be kind and compassionate to other members, but do not post medical, nutritional or psychological advice.

Leave the numbers out of it. Weight, BMI, clothing size or the calories you ate today don’t belong on Proud2Bme. Don’t post diet tips, details about disordered eating behavior or messages that encourage eating disorders.

Try to stay away from specific details that could be used as a “tip” or “trick.” This can turn a well-intentioned story into ‘how-to’ instructions for someone to follow. For example, instead of saying the foods you ate when you were engaging in disordered behavior, focus on the mental and physical consequences of the eating disorder (e.g. disrupted friendships and isolation, fear and depression, fatigue, decreased ability to concentrate, medical complications, etc.) rather than the specific behaviors or number counting that perpetuated the eating disorder.

Be safe. Don’t share your email address, your Facebook page, your real name, your address, your school, or your place of work. Remember, forums are public. Keep your personal information private.

Don’t post material that you don’t have permission to use (pictures, music, video, etc.). If you’re sharing a quote or a statistic, be sure to give credit.

Don’t try to sell or promote products or services.

This probably goes without saying, but we’ll say it anyway. Don’t use obscene language or post obscene, offensive material.

A few more things you need to know:
If you post something that violates our Community Guidelines, your post will be deleted and your membership could be revoked.
See something on the forums or in the comments that upsets you? Be sure to report it to our moderators.

Proud2Bme reserves the right to edit or delete posts at our discretion and to contact members via email to provide resources, referrals, and support. However, this does not mean that all requests to delete a post will result in deletion. All interpretation and implementation of these Community Guidelines is at the discretion of Proud2Bme.

You must be at least 13 years old to participate in forums, chat, and post comments on Proud2Bme.

From time to time we may decide, or be required by law, to make changes to these Community Guidelines.  If we make any changes, we will update these Guidelines by posting revised Community Guidelines, and, as necessary, notify you as required by law.  You are encouraged to return to this page periodically to check for updates.

Hi Everyone! I'm Rachel and I
Hi Everyone! I'm Rachel and I just joined this website today! I am currently doing the Three Day Challenge, and I have gotten such positive feedback through Facebook and the Proud2Bme Facebook page. I am currently in recovery from BED and have come such a long way! I am also a NEDA Navigator, so I help support people who are going through an eating disorder and the parents and friends of those who know someone is suffering. Please feel free to contact me through my Facebook page- Rachel Quetti. I cannot wait to meet everyone and hear your stories!
