So who watched Miss
So who watched Miss Representation? I have to say that I was first very struck by the fact that the filmmaker, Jen Siebel Newsom, was so open about the fact that she had suffered from an eating disorder and that was a key part of her motivation for making the film. I know in my experience that my own awareness of the ridiculous cultural pressures around weight and beauty--and my anger about those pressures--was central to my recovery. Newsom found a way to turn her experience into a film that educates, but also sparks awareness (and hopefully activism!) in others. I love that. Also, how cool was Devashi? Check out her "Represent Us" video on YouTube. http://youtu.be/C8uvlqVQ75s
