Hello! I'm Mady.

Hi There!

My name is Mady, I am a new forum moderator. I am currently finishing my last semester at a University to complete my BA in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. As someone who has struggled with an ED, I am very passionate about helping others in similar situations. I am interested in better understanding how society has an affect on mental illnesses, specifically eating disorders, and ways we can overcome these tribulations.

I also enjoy gardening, paintaining, and walking through nature trails. I am happy and excited to be apart of Proud2BMe and am excited to meet all of you!

I think society paints an ugly stigma on mental illnesses. It seems like those who have the mental illnesses are looked down upon. However if it is a physical illness there is more sympathy. There should be no difference. Just because it is a mental illness, doesn't mean that we don't suffer, could be a chemical imbalance in our heads or trauma in childhood that kickstarted it. Doesn't mean that we don't deserve the help. I know for me, when I went to go get some help for my eating disorder, I was apprehensive due to this stigma. Now if people have an issue that is their issue.
