Proud2Bme | I Choose Recovery

I Choose Recovery

By Rae Smith--Every day when I wake up, I choose recovery. I choose to live my life with purpose and celebrate the small victories. I choose to challenge hate and negativity with truth and positivity.

I choose to embrace my body and love myself for who I am, where I am, with no strings attached. I make the choice to eat and enjoy my meals because I deserve the place I have been given in this world. I refuse to believe that my worth can be contained by an empty bathroom scale, a lifeless magazine or a distorted mirror. I choose to make it impossible for self-hate to exist in my life by surrounding myself with truth and positivity.

Every day I am striving to be the change I wish I had so that I can show young people that it is possible to recover and live a life free from the chains of struggle and destruction.  Recovery has been the most amazing, liberating and freeing thing I have ever done in my life. I have learned that life is beautiful and struggle is inevitable but the most amazing thing about persevering through challenge is coming out the other side stronger, braver and wiser then when you went in.

Regardless of the struggle you have faced or the challenges this life has bestowed upon you, a colourful and full life is always possible. The choice is yours, it always has been. I believe in you and you should believe in you too!
